Our Bishop has allowed for the resumption of public Masses on Monday, May 11th. We are busy this week with preparing the sanctuary to conform to his requirements put in place to increase your safety. You may read his letter to the faithful here: https://charlestondiocese.org/covid-19-response/
As for this coming weekend, May 10th, the 11am Mass will be live-streamed. The 11am live-streamed Mass will continue until further notice. The dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass is still in effect for those who are considered vulnerable.I will offer this first public Mass on Monday, May 11th at 6:00 pm in thanksgiving for the Eucharist. For those who come to Mass, we must continue to maintain social distancing. Things will look different to you. Every other pew is cordoned off and the center isle has blue crosses on the carpet to remind you of the need to stay 6’ apart. Please keep this distance in the pews between your family unit and the next family unit. As per the Bishop, we can only fill the church to 25% capacity. This means that 135 people will be allowed at each Mass. No more will be permitted to participate. You will enter through the main sanctuary doors only and exit only through the front gathering area doors. There will be masks and hand sanitizer available at the entrance doors and commonly touched surfaces will be disinfected after each Mass. Since we cannot pass the offertory plate, there will be baskets at the entrance and exit doors. No nursery will be offered through the month of May. The usual schedule of daily Mass and Monday Communion service will return on May 12th. As a reminder, the sanctuary continues to be open for Adoration from 7 am to 6 pm. I am available for Confession by appointment only. Please call the office and leave a message. As we implement these precautionary safety standards, I ask you to be patient, and continue to pray, especially the Rosary during this month of Mary, as we are all more than ready to return to public worship.
